Interview Question : What Are Your Dreams?

By | May 29, 2016

As one of the standard interview questions, “what are your lifelong dreams” begs for a creative response. Its open nature leaves you free to answer as you choose. What, however, do you say when faced with such a broad question

Even though you may think that your interviewer is looking for dreams where the sky is the limit, they are actually looking for what your response says in relation to the position that you’re applying for. They want to know if you’re looking to be there long term, or if this is just another small step in the corporate ladder upward.

Mistakes

Sidestepping potential interview disasters is as simple as avoiding these potential pitfalls:

  • Don’t get too specific; giving too many details causes the interviewer to read into things that they otherwise wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do.
  • Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket by assuring them that your only lifelong dream is to work, work, work.
  • Do not give them the feeling that you’ll be gone in a year.
  • Don’t answer this question without highlighting the skills and talents it will take from you to achieve your dreams.By evading these common mistakes, you can stay at the top of the interviewer’s stack and find yourself a little closer to landing the job.Fear-Man-960x790
